Across the world, the rule of law is being threatened. Geopolitical developments have challenged the rules-based international order to an extent perhaps not seen for decades. The rise of populism and nationalism, conflict, challenging economic conditions and even the COVID pandemic have all, in different ways, put pressure on the rule of law both at home and abroad.

Against this concerning backdrop, it is instructive to ask: what does the rule of law really mean? What can we learn from recent experiences at home and overseas? What role can commerce play in strengthening the rule of law? What role do we all have in protecting the rule of law? Our panel will be addressing these questions.
